About the project

We're inviting the community to share their thoughts on the proposed Nyoongar dual names for ten local parks, reserves and community facilities. Dual naming means adding a Nyoongar name alongside the existing English name, the English names are not removed or changed.

This project is part of the City’s commitment to reconciliation. Dual naming helps recognise Nyoongar culture, strengthen community relationships and support the use of Nyoongar language in everyday life.

Over 2023 and 2024, the City worked closely with local Elders, Knowledge Holders and the First Nations community to explore suitable Nyoongar names. More than 60 places were considered, and ten priority sites were selected to progress over the next five years. These names were supported by Council for the purpose of public consultation in September 2025, and have also been reviewed by Landgate and the Noongar Boodjar Language Cultural Aboriginal Corporation for accuracy and translation.

Pronunciations will also be included on signage in the future to help everyone feel confident using the names.

These ten proposed dual names are now open for your feedback. Use the activities on this page to provide us with your feedback.
